Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Highlights from this week at JMS include
  • progress reports sent home this Friday,
  • our fourth-graders caroling at the Morris Senior Center,
  • Candy Candy Lane, thanks to our PTO and parent volunteers, and
  • visits to the Morris Library by many of our students.

All students and staff honored the passing of President George H.W. Bush with a moment of silence, introduced by the following statement:

Good Morning,

You may be aware that on Friday of last week, former President, George H.W. Bush passed away. He was our country's 41st president and served from 1989 to 1993, which is probably around the same period of time that many of your parents were children in school.

George Bush was born in Massachusetts, just a few hours away from Morris. Soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, he turned 18 years old, and he immediately volunteered to join the military. He became one of the youngest pilots in the Navy. When he returned from the military, he went to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

As an adult, George Bush became a millionaire. He wanted to continue to serve his country, however, and he spent many of his adult years working for Americans within our government. George H.W. Bush was 94 years old when he died last Friday.

I would like to ask that we all take a moment to silently think kind thoughts for the Bush family and to imagine the respect and responsibility shown by many young Americans like George Bush who volunteer to serve our country in dangerous situations around the world.

Thank you

Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you Sunday afternoon at the tree-lighting ceremony!

KC Chapman, Principal
